GRSE launches the Second Fast Patrol Vessel for Indian Coast Guard on 31 Mar 18

Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), GRSE Yard 2114, the 2ND of the series of five ships  being constructed for Indian Coast Guard, will be launched by Smt Bibha Krishna, wife of Lt Gen Abhay Krishna, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command.

The ship will be launched with its proposed name ANNIE BESANT. Anne Besant, the famous theosophist, socialist, women right activist, writer, orator and supporter of Irish & Indian self-rule.

Keel of this ship was laid in this Dry Dock on 11 August 17. The ship is being launched within a span of 5 ½  months from keel laying, a credible achievement, made possible through the concerted efforts of all Stakeholders, Team GRSE, CGRPS  & his team of overseers, the Classification Societies, ABS & IRS and the subcontractors of GRSE in block fabrication.

Fast Patrol Vessels  have been entirely designed by GRSE’s Central Design Office, and these ships are an improved version of Inshore Patrol Vessels earlier built by GRSE for the Indian Coast Guard. With an efficient hull form developed in house and proved after extensive model testing, these ships are designed to achieve speeds in excess of 34 knots. These fuel efficient & powerful platforms are well suited for patrolling, anti-smuggling, anti-poaching and rescue operations. They will be fitted with state of the art Main Engines with advanced control systems & Water jet units and an ‘Integrated Bridge System’ integrating all Communication and Navigation Systems. These ships are also fitted with 40/60 Gun as main armament and will also have improved habitability features with fully air conditioned modular accommodation for 35 personnel.

It is also noteworthy that GRSE’s Diesel Engine Plant at Ranchi has supplied the main engines in collaboration with MTU, Germany while GRSE’s Deck Machinery Taratala unit has supplied the Anchor Capstan.

With the active support and co-operation from  various sub-contractors in various shipbuilding activities, the capabilities of this Mini Ratna Defence Shipyard has increased manifold enabling quality production of Warships and auxiliary ships in shorter time frame. All these achievements have been possible due to untiring efforts of highly skilled and dedicated workmen, supervisors and officers of the shipyard who are determined to take GRSE to much greater height in the near future.
